MY STORY
Please let me share a little about myself. My name is Ed Chasteen. In 1981 I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis - in my doctor's words, "It's a damnable disease and you can't be active." Unable to accept a sedentary lifestyle and rapidly declining health, I began riding my son's bicycle. I knew that if I could ride, then I could walk. I convinced myself that cycling is the only medicine I needed to hold off the ravages of MS. I discovered that my MS means I must be active!

To date I have ridden more than 130,000 miles highlighted by a solo ride across America in 1987 from Orlando to Seattle to Los Angeles, a total of 10,000 miles during 2003 to raise money and awareness for MS and Hatebusters. In addition to my regular training rides, I have included the MS 150 Bike Tour each year since 1986 – that’s 18 consecutive years, 2650 miles, and more than $20,000 raised for my personal fight against MS!

In my 70s, I can honestly say that I have been blessed with a full and productive life. Somehow that's not enough. There are those much younger who are also battling MS. Those afflicted and their families deserve a message of hope and a cure. Regular aerobic exercise is proven to be an effective therapy for battling MS, however, I know that together we can beat this disease!

WON’T YOU PLEASE HELP?
I have committed to continue riding my bicycle to raise money and awareness for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. To reach my goals I will need your help. The GREATER LIBERTY RIDE FOR MS launches my fundraising efforts within the local cycling community. Any assistance will be deeply appreciated. I am encouraging all I know and all you know to come ride with me, share my message, and/or contribute to my fundraising efforts.
